Dear Joe and Nancy,
I am sending you healing energy during this stressful time.

I also want to recommend to you a product that has helped me considerably with my own back problems (i have had numerous back injuries including 3 vertibral fractures). It is called a Biomat and is made by Richway. I have been suffering with back pain for more than 30 years but had wonderful restful sleep on one of these and the elimination of pain for 2 weeks after sleeping on one of these for 2 nights. I have ordered one and it will arrive Friday. It uses amethyst crystals and Far infrared and negative ions to bring relief and healing. Perhaps someone in your area has one that you can try out for a week. Check with massage therapists, my LMT loaned me hers.

Thanks for letting us know about the surgery, for keeping us updated.

Joe,
I didn’t realize the surgery was going to be this soon. I dreamed of a friend – and couldn’t recall who it was exactly – being in the hospital last night with a wound to the throat area. And I’ve been smelling that hospital-anesthesia-type of smell all morning and wondering why. Now I know why.

My wife, Sheila, and I will be thinking of you. Our prayers are with you. And we’re praying this one will cut the pain back to a more tolerable level – I understand what you’re going through because I’ve been there myself (to a lesser degree).

Try to get comfortable and enjoy the ride as much as possible…and then come back to us. We all need you more than you know.

We’ve never met but feel I know you as I’m currently reading your four books back to back. And I’m hoping there will be a fifth, perhaps about your Japanese experience (as my wife Hiromi is Japanese).
